He is a Senior Academician at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2017 he returned to his home town to receive the award Honorary Doctor of Arts.

His best known work Hatstand, Table and Chair, involving fibreglass "fetish" mannequins, debuted to protests in 1970. Allen Jones is one of the last living Pop Artists. Jones was one of a group of students which included Derek Boshier, David Hockney, R. B. Kitaj and Peter Phillips, who radically changed the face of British art with their precocious, unconventional and irreverent work which was based in popular culture, embracing new subject-matter and new materials.
